Mandated boosters every nine months for life? I don't think so.

Mandated boosters every nine months for life? I don't think so.

Canadians will be required to get a COVID-19 shot every nine months for the foreseeable future, according to Health Minister Jean-Yves Duclos.

To Mr. Duclos, may I extend my most hearty invitation to kiss my butt.

People have had it with being human pincushions.

COVID-19 has been in retreat for months and we are learning to live with it. While vaccines may reduce the likelihood of adverse health outcomes in vulnerable people infected with COVID-19, they have also been proven to be ineffective in stopping the spread of the disease.

Healthy people under 60 years old really have little to fear from COVID-19. This isn’t conjecture, this is based on over two years of data and experience with the virus. The virus is real, and it isn’t harmless, but it is hardly the bubonic plague.

My issue isn’t with the vaccines themselves. It is with the push from governments to mandate them.

If you want me to do something, ask me. Reason with me. Make the case as to why I would want to choose to do something. I very well may consider doing so.

The second you try to force me to do something though, I will lose trust, dig my feet in and refuse. Particularly if you are trying to force me into something as personal as a medical choice.

The health minister deked and dodged when repeatedly asked if mandates will be returning.

Coercion is not choice.

People who have chosen not to be vaccinated have dealt with being banned from travel, from visiting friends and family, from participating in sports and events and even from entering some businesses for a period of time. They have been hounded from their jobs and ostracized by political leaders. They have missed once-in-a-lifetime gatherings, from funerals to graduation ceremonies.

Sure they have a free choice; they can become a social pariah with no job or ability to travel, or they can accept a medical procedure they don’t want.

The hypocrisy of the “my body my choice” set is striking on this one.

If we had legislation allowing abortion but stating that any woman who chose an abortion would lose their job, their ability to travel and would be incapable of entering some businesses, do you think the “my body my choice” bunch would consider it free choice?

The economy is already reeling, and people are sick to death of constant division and protests.

One has to ask, why is the government so fixated on forcing all Canadians to get an injection every nine months? Why would they want to spawn new protests and put thousands of people out of work again? Don’t they have bigger fish to fry, right now?

The air travel catastrophe in Canada is making international news as thousands of passengers spend countless hours in lineups in crowded airports. Labour shortages are part of that, but let's not pretend the ArriveCan app that checks vaccination status while adding up to four minutes per passenger in processing time has nothing to do with it. The government refuses to dump that app though it offers no benefit aside from continuing with the campaign of harassment against the unvaccinated.

Let’s not pretend the government really cares that much about our health.

The motivation lies in the government’s obligation to purchase nearly 200 million doses of vaccines by the end of 2023 as our Melanie Risdon reported, and broke down in detail a couple weeks ago.

The government won’t disclose how much they have committed to paying per dose, but the cost is clearly in the billions.

Some very powerful people have a strong vested interest in getting those doses into the bodies of citizens.

Vaccines have a very limited shelf life. If people don’t submit to being injected, the government could face the prospect of news reporting millions of expensive vaccines being poured down the drain. They would rather force people to be jabbed than face that.

I chose the first two jabs I got, though I was still opposed to the coercion efforts of the government at that time.

Now, they can go to hell.

Make the case and offer true free choice or prepare for protests to only get stronger while our economy remains in the tank.

We have had enough.
